Dhaka University on Tuesday celebrated the 153rd anniversary of the birth of Nawab Sir Khwaja Salimullah, one of the key founders of the university, through a day-long programme on the campus.

The celebration began in the morning with a colourful rally jointly organised by the administration and students of Sir Salimullah Muslim Hall.


To mark the day, a procession was brought out at around 9:00am which after parading the Fuller Road adjacent to British Council, concluded at the hall ground.

Vice-chancellor of the university, professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, led the rally.

DU pro-vice-chancellor for administration professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, and hall provost professor Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, were present at the rally.

Residential teachers, students, staff members, and former students of the hall also took part in the event.

On the occasion, essay and quiz competitions were organised for both residential and non-residential students of the hall. A seminar focusing on the life and contribution of Nawab Salimullah was held in the afternoon, followed by a prize-giving ceremony, cultural performance, and a dinner in the evening.

Speaking at the discussion, vice-chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the contribution of Nawab Salimullah and his family in founding Dhaka University and advancing education in the region was undeniable.
