Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam at a workshop in Dhaka on Tuesday said that if evidence-based treatment could be spread, there would be a huge change in overall treatment, including protecting the interests of patients.

‘In the era of modern medical science and technology, there is no opportunity to ignore evidence-based medicine or evidence-based treatment. If evidence-based treatment can be spread, there will be a huge change in overall treatment, including protecting the interests of patients,’ he said at the 3-day training workshop on evidence-based medicine at the BMU.


The workshop, initiated by the BMU’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, began at the conference room of the Super Specialised Hospital on Tuesday, said a press release.

Mentioning that evidence-based treatment is a testimony to the truth, the VC said, ‘If doctors follow the guidelines and evidence-based treatment in their prescriptions and prescribe medicines and give medical advice, then not only will patients receive proper medical care, but doctors will also contribute greatly to building a positive image of society.’

Inaugurated by Professor Shahinul Alam as chief guest, IQAC director Professor Dr Nurun Nahar Khanam and former chairman of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology Professor Dr Md Mozammel Haque presented papers as resource persons.

The workshop was attended by the BMU treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar, president of the departmental committee Professor Dr Tabassum Parveen, member Professor Dr Syeda Saeeda, president of the Quality Assurance Committee of the department of radiology and imaging Professor Dr Syeda Nazli Mostafa and presidnet of the Quality Assurance Committee of the department of paediatric nephrology Professor Dr Afroza Begum, among others.
