
North South University vice-chancellor, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, has been awarded an honorary professorship by Nanjing Audit University in China on Thursday.
The recognition was conferred during a symposium held at the NAU, where the two universities also signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster academic exchange, joint research and institutional development, said a press release.
Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, the first South Asian scholar to receive this distinction from the institution, said, ‘Such events mark a milestone in NSU’s growing international engagement and its mission to tackle global challenges through education, research and socially responsible innovation.’
As part of the event, Professor Abdul Hannan delivered a keynote speech titled Social Business and 3 Zeros, addressing innovative solutions to poverty, unemployment and carbon emissions through sustainable business models.
Professor Sk Tawfique M Haque, director of the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance at NSU, was also present at the event.
Later, a meeting was held at Jiangsu Bank, where Professor Abdul Hannan, as chairman of Grameen Bank, highlighted the bank’s pioneering role in inclusive finance.
His remarks emphasised Grameen Bank’s global impact through microcredit, risk management strategies and community-focused financial models.
