The Pacific Jeans Group has decided to reopen its eight factories in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone today.

The business group had kept the factories closed since Saturday following worker unrest.

The decision on the reopening of the factories was announced Tuesday night in separate notices signed by Pacific Jeans Group managing director Syed Mohammed Tanvir.

The notice stated, ‘Due to an unexpected situation, the authorities were compelled to declare an indefinite closure of all factory operations under Section 12(1) of the Bangladesh EPZ Labour Act 2019, effective from October 16.’

‘As the overall situation has now improved and a favourable environment has been restored, the authorities have decided to reopen the factories from Thursday [today],’ the notice added.

The management also urged all officials and employees to attend their respective workplaces on time and assist in resuming production activities.

On October 16 evening, the Pacific Jeans Group authorities announced an indefinite shutdown of the eight factories in the CEPZ following worker protests and clashes earlier in that week.

The closure, effective from Saturday, was declared through eight notices signed by Tanvir.

The closed factories are Pacific Jeans Ltd, Pacific Jeans Ltd (Unit-2), Pacific Attires Ltd, Pacific Accessories, Pacific Workwears Ltd, Universal Jeans Ltd, NHT Fashions Ltd, and Jeans 2000 Ltd.

More than 35,000 workers are employed across the eight factories of the Pacific Jeans Group.
