Sonali Bank PLC on Thursday won ‘e-Return Champion’ certificate from the National Board of Revenue.

The NBR honoured Sonali Bank for its significant contribution to tax payment and good governance as the institution that filed the highest number of income tax returns by online in the 2024-25 tax year.


Among the five recognised organisations, Sonali Bank is the only bank to achieve this honour.

Sonali Bank received the accolade at ‘Bangladesh Single Window’ event organised  by the NBR at a city hotel on the day.

The chief guest of the event, financial adviser SalehUddin Ahmed handed over the certificate and crest to Sonali Bank managing director and chief executive officer Shawkat Ali Khan.

NBR chairman Abdur  Rahman Khan presided over the programme.

Commerce adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, special envoy on international affairs to the chief adviser Lutfey Siddiqi and special assistant to the chief adviser Anisuzzaman Chowdhury attended as special guests.

Md Shawkat Ali Khan said that, following the NBR’s mandate in October 2024 for online tax return submissions by bank officials, Sonali Bank quickly launched a series of initiatives — online training for 3,500 employees, a dedicated helpdesk, video tutorials, and continuous monitoring — to ensure 100 per cent online tax return submissions across all branches and offices.

Sonali Bank chief financial officer Md Iqbal Hossain, among others, was also present.
