Mastercard, in collaboration with Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, on Thursday announced inauguration of Bangladesh’s first-ever fully cashless university campus at Rajshahi University under the Bangladesh Bank’s ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ initiative.
The transformation will enable students, faculty and visitors to conduct quick, secure and convenient digital transactions across campus facilities, significantly reducing reliance on cash and accelerating the adoption of smart financial services, said a press release.
As part of the initiative, Rajshahi University is being equipped with digital payment acceptance tools such as Point-of-Sale (POS) machines and Bangla QR, ensuring that all campus transactions – from cafeterias and bookstores to administrative offices – can be completed digitally.
In addition, an exclusive debit card for students has been launched through the ceremony.
Rajshahi University pro-vice chancellor (administration) Mohammad Main Uddin was present as chief guest in the launch event.
Bangladesh Bank Rajshahi Office director Rathin Kumar Paul, Payment Systems Department directors Md Sharafat Ullah Khan and Rafeza Akhter Kanta joined as special guests.
Among others, Islami Bank additional managing director Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder and Mastercard Bangladesh country manager Syed Mohammad Kamal were present.
