On July 31, the Trump administration revised the reciprocal tariff on Bangladeshi goods to 20 per cent, following a series of discussions, which had been declared 35 per cent and 37 per cent earlier.
Moreover, trade disputes with China remained unsettled while the Trump administration imposed a total of 50 per cent tariff on India, aimed at penalising the country for its continued imports of Russian oil.
The manufacturers said that this shift has created some opportunities for Bangladesh’s RMG industry, as buyers might reconsider their sourcing strategies.

‘China’s share and export to US market gradually declining due to trade war and tariff issues,’ he added, saying that the government should ensure policy supports.
Former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel said that US buyers have always trusted Bangladeshi products.
‘As Trump administration announced new tariff, we have opportunity to do better in the coming years,’ he added.
However, he urged adequate policy support from the government and manufacturers to focus on diversified and high-value products.
