The Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Swisscontact, a Swiss and Swedish development organization, signed a memorandum of understanding for promoting green growth and resilience within the garments accessories and packaging sector.Â
According to a press release, the MoU was signed during a joint workshop held on Saturday at a hotel in the capital, focusing on two key initiatives, promotion of green growth in the ready-made garments sector through skills and initiative to stimulate private investment for resource efficiency.
Bidowara Tahmina Khan, team leader of the InSPIRE project, and BGAPMEA president Md Al Shahriar signed the agreement.
Both projects are funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and implemented by Swisscontact.
Md Shahriar, president of BGAPMEA, stated that the garments, accessories, and packaging sector serves the ready-made garments industry and fulfills 100 percent of the packaging demands for other export-oriented sectors, including frozen food, footwear, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, and leather goods.Â
He also urged modernisation, compliance, and building competitive capacity to prepare the sector for the future.
BGAPMEA’s top officials, directors, former presidents and vice presidents, representatives from various member companies, development agency officials, and relevant industry stakeholders were also present at the event.
