Leading industrial conglomerate PRAN-RFL Group is set to revive the long-defunct Rajshahi Textile Mills, aiming to transform it into the largest environment-friendly industrial hub in northern Bangladesh.

Speaking at a ‘Meet the Press’ event on Monday at a hotel in Rajshahi, PRAN-RFL Group’s marketing director Kamruzzaman Kamal announced that trial production at the 26-acre facility had already begun, with a formal inauguration scheduled soon.

‘An investment of approximately Tk 350 crore is planned over the next two years to fully operationalise the project, creating employment opportunities for around 12,000 people,’ he said.

‘The factory will produce a range of export-oriented products, including bags, shoes, and ready-made garments,’ he added.

Kamruzzaman noted that the entirely export-focused Barendra Rajshahi Textile Mills Limited would be a fully sustainable green industrial park, equipped with solar energy systems, green zones, and water recycling facilities.

Anisur Rahman, executive director of PRAN-RFL’s subsidiary Multi-Line Industries Limited, said that the group signed an agreement with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation in October last year to reopen the Rajshahi Textile Mills through a public-private partnership.

‘Within three months, we began trial production by repairing and utilising one of the abandoned sheds, already providing jobs for about 1,000 local residents. Recruitment for an additional 1,000 workers is currently underway,’ he said.

Highlighting future plans, Anisur Rahman added that a modern call centre and a skill development centre would be established within the mill premises to enhance the skills of local workers.

‘One of our key objectives is to curb migration to the capital by creating sustainable employment opportunities in Rajshahi. If this project succeeds, we hope to expand even further across the Rajshahi region,’ he added.
