According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the arrears of laid-off workers in 14 closed factories of the Beximco Industrial Park are being paid.

On Tuesday, the company cleared the arrears of 11,293 workers in the factories of the Beximco Industrial Park with the support of the labour and finance ministries, meaning all 27,680 laid-off workers received their arrears.


The remaining workers will get paid soon.

On March 6, the government handed over a cheque for Tk 525.46 crore to pay all arrears of laid-off workers and staff of 14 Beximco Industrial Park closed factories.

Labour and employment ministry secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman handed the cheque to Beximco Limited managing director Osman Kaiser Chowdhury.

On February 27, labour and employment adviser retired Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hossain said that the government would pay the dues of laid-off workers of the 14 industrial units of the Beximco Industrial Park in phases from March 9.

The adviser revealed that the Finance Division would provide Tk聽325.46 crore and Tk聽200 crore would come from the central fund under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

About 31,679 workers and 1,565 other staff were employed at the Beximco Industrial Park units.
