Summit Group has appointed Md Reaz Uddin as managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Summit Meghnaghat I Power Company Limited (337 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant) and Summit Meghnaghat II Power Company Limited (583 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant), says a press release.

Summit Meghnaghat I is a joint venture between Taiyo Life Insurance (Japan), JERA (Japan) and Summit, while Summit Meghnaghat II is a joint venture between GE (USA), JERA (Japan) and Summit.


Reaz Uddin has been a valued member of the Summit since 2011. Prior to this appointment, he served as the chief executive officer of Summit Meghnaghat II Power Company Ltd., and as the chief operating officer of both Summit Meghnaghat I Power Company Ltd. and Summit Bibiyana Power Company Ltd, adds the press release.

He brings over 32 years of extensive experience in power generation, having led high-level negotiations, executed large-scale infrastructure projects, and managed plant operations and maintenance (O&M) teams.

According to the press release, throughout his career, Reaz has played a key role in the development, financing, construction, and operation of power plants totalling over 2,000 MW, and has contributed to bring foreign project financings exceeding $ 1.1 billion into Bangladesh.

After graduating from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1992 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he began his career at KAFCO, a multinational fertilizer company.

In 2000, he joined AES, a US-based power company that developed the first two combined cycle power plants in the IPP sector in Bangladesh.

Over the years, he has held senior roles in these two projects with various multinational organisations, including Powertek Berhad, CDC Globeleq, AES Corporation, and KAFCO. He also holds an MBA from Victoria University, Australia.

Outside of his professional achievements, Reaz is known for his strong sense of social responsibility and community engagement. With an early background in student activism, he has remained socially and politically aware throughout his life.

He has consistently supported those in need, especially during times of crisis. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating floods in Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur in 2024, he led personal initiatives to mobilise resources, raise funds, and distribute essential supplies among affected communities.

He is married with two daughters and maintains a deep passion for sports, travel, and music.
