The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has reported a significant rise in income in its annual financial statement for 2024, with total earnings reaching Tk 15.65 crore, a sharp increase from Tk 1.10 crore in the previous year.
A BNP delegation, led by its senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, submitted the party’s audited financial report for the calendar year of 2024 to the Election Commission on Sunday.
According to the report submitted to the EC, the party’s expenditure in 2024 stood at Tk 4.80 crore, leaving a surplus of Tk 10.86 crore. The surplus remained deposited in the party’s bank account, the statement said.
BNP’s income in 2023 was Tk 1.10 crore, while expenditure totalled Tk 3.65 crore, resulting in a deficit for that year.
The comparison showed the party’s income rose by over Tk 14 crore within a year.
The party’s earnings in 2022 were recorded at Tk 5.92 crore, with expenditures amounting to Tk 3.88 crore.
Following the submission of the report, Rizvi told reporters that the report was duly audited and submitted in line with the legal requirement to present annual financial statements to the Election Commission by July 31 each year.
He said that the party’s income for the year was primarily sourced from monthly subscriptions by members of the national executive committee, sales of books and publications, donations from individuals and organisations and interest accrued from bank deposits.
On the expenditure side, the party spent funds on financial assistance to individuals, relief distribution in flood-affected areas, printing of posters and leaflets, organising rallies and discussion meetings, including hall rentals, publishing supplements in newspapers, arranging iftar gatherings during Ramadan and various office-related operational costs.
He alleged that, under the authoritarian influence, the past commissions had overseen rigged and voter-less elections, manipulated through administrative pressure.
The BNP leader expressed hope that the current commission would take courageous steps towards holding free, fair and inclusive elections.
