Bangladesh archery team’s German coach Martin Frederick on Sunday expressed satisfaction over his charges’ preparation and stated they hope to replicate 2019’s success, as the 24th Asian Archery Championship 2025 is set to begin at the National Stadium in Dhaka on November 8.
‘You may recall that when we hosted the Championship here in 2021, we won three medals. But in the last edition in Bangkok in 2023, we didn’t win any. So I want us to replicate the success we achieved in 2021,’ said Martin.
‘It’s a huge responsibility. We definitely want to perform well on home ground and are looking forward to the event with great excitement,’ he continued.
Martin made the remarks on the final day of the Bangladesh Archery League, which concluded at the Bangladesh Archery Academy Ground in Tongi on Sunday.
Bangladesh won one silver and two bronze medals – silver in the recurve mixed doubles, and bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s team recurve events – in 2021.Â
Bangladesh’s recurve archer Sagor Islam vowed to give the best.
‘We’ve been training very hard for quite some time…Playing on home ground is an advantage for us. Our goal is to finish among the top teams. We have strong lineups in every event, and we’ll give our best to achieve that,’ said Sagor, the Olympics 2024 participant.
The competition will run at the National Stadium from November 8 to 14 before it will be shifted to the Army Stadium.
However, Bangladesh Air Force emerged as champions in the Archery League while Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan finished runners-up and Teerandaz and Bangladesh Ansar emerged joint-third.
