
Poet Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin was appointed on Sunday director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for one year.
The public administration ministry issued a notification in this regard on the day.
Born in 1962 in Jhenaidah, Rezauddin Stalin, a Dhaka University graduate, built his career in journalism and cultural activities and later served as deputy director of the Nazrul Institute.
Author of 45 poetry books, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2006.
Earlier, an interim order had assigned the role to Abul Foyez Md Alauddin Khan, additional secretary at the ministry of cultural affairs, on September 16.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 2024, in a mass uprising, Liaquat Ali Lucky stepped down from the post on August 12. He had taken charge as the BSA director general on April 7, 2011.
Renowned theatre director and researcher Syed Jamil Ahmed was appointed the DG of the academy on September 9, 2024, for a two-year term, but he resigned in February 2025 alleging administrative interference and bureaucratic obstacles created by the cultural affairs ministry.
After his resignation, BSA secretary Mohammad Wares Hossain was given charge as acting director general on March 4, 2025.
On Sunday, the cultural affairs ministry also appointed four directors to the BSA.
Filmmaker Shaheen Dil-Riaz was appointed director for the training department, media and branding specialist Daniel Afzalur Rahman for the production department, art researcher Salma Jamal Mausum for the research and publication department, and theatre actor-director Deepak Kumar Goswami for the drama and film department.
Earlier, on September 30, 2024, the interim government had appointed new directors to six departments of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
They were Mustafa Zaman for the fine arts department, Faiz Zahir for the drama and film department, Nava Mehjabeen Rahman for the music, dance and recitation department, Tanzim Wahab for the research and publication department, Abdul Halim Chanchal for the production department and AFM Nurur Rahman for the training department.
Mustafa Zaman, however, resigned on July 1 while Tanzim Wahab was appointed director general of the Bangladesh National Museum on August 18.
