Mobile network operator Banglalink has introduced solar power at data centre in Gazipur, said a press release.
With the installation of an 80KW solar power system at its Gazipur Facility, Banglalink is now the first MNO in Bangladesh to integrate green energy into a data centre, it said.
Huseyin Turker, chief technology and information officer of Banglalink, said, ‘Through this initiative, Banglalink has set a national benchmark for sustainable innovation that will drive significant environmental impact.’
‘This new system will produce around 0.13 Gigawatt-hour of clean energy every year. It will help reduce carbon emissions by 60 tons annually and save the company about USD 12,600 each year in energy costs,’ he said.
He added, ‘The setup utilises 9,000 square feet of previously unused rooftop space. More importantly, Banglalink expects rapid ROI by aiming to recover the full cost of the project.’
