
A 65-year-old Bangladeshi national was killed by Indian Border Security Force at Lohakuchi border in Lalmonirhat early Wednesday.
The deceased, Nur Islam, was a resident of Malgara village of Goral union of Kaliganj upazila of the district.
The 15 BGB captain, Lt Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand, confirmed the matter and said that a group of cattle traders tried to enter Indian territory to fetch cattle.
At that time, the patrol team of West Chamta camp of 78 BSF open fire on them, leaving Nur Islam dead on the spot.
He also said that a protest would be lodged at a flag meeting over the incident.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh sources, the incident took place at midnight at 919 pillar area of Lohakuchi border and Nur鈥檚 body was brought back to Bangladeshi land by his associates.
Abdul Quader, in-charge of Goral Police Investigation Center under Kaliganj Police Station, said that the body was sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for post-mortem in the morning.
According to Ain O Salish Kendra, a human rights organisation, 11 Bangladeshis were shot to death by BSF members while nine people were injured between January and May this year.
The rights body reported that at least 28 Bangladeshis were shot to death and 31 were injured by the BSF members in 2023.
