Bangladesh will be looking to return to winning ways as they take on Sri Lanka in their sixth game of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, Monday.
The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm Bangladesh Standard Time. T-sports will telecast the match live.
Nigar Sultana Joty-led side began the tournament with a dominating seven-wicket win over Pakistan; however, they suffered four straight losses to be eliminated from the semi-final race.
Despite inadequate practice before the tournament, Bangladesh put up a strong performance against former champions England and South Africa, though it went to a losing cause.Â
However, they were completely thrashed in the other two matches, as they tasted a 100-run defeat to New Zealand and a 10-wicket defeat to Australia.
Young cricketers Marufa Akter and Shorna Akter were notable performers, alongside experienced campaigners Nahida Akter and Fahima Khatun while Sobhana Mostary and Rubya Haider were the top batting forces for Bangladesh.
Sobhana’s remarkable 66 against Australia in the last match helped them to record their highest total against the defending champions in ODIs.
Joty said they would take the match result against Australia as a lesson and do their best against Sri Lanka.
‘I think we are better than the result which we produced against Australia,’ Joty said after the crushing defeat on October 16.
‘We have learnt from here (from the defeat against Australia). We’ll face off against Sri Lanka and want to put out our best,’ she added.
While Bangladesh have the prior experience to beat Sri Lanka in T20Is, they are yet to beat them in the ODI format.
The teams met three times in ODI format, with Sri Lanka winning two while the other match was washed out.
