Bangladesh clinched their maiden T20I series win over Pakistan as they beat the visitors by eight runs in a thrilling encounter in the second of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Bangladesh posted 133 in 20 overs thanks to a fifty from Jaker Ali. Faheem Ashraf, with his 51 off 32, then almost took Pakistan home but fell short.听
Shoriful Islam took three wickets while Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan each took two.听
Pakistan started to crumble with the run-out of Saim Ayub in the first over bowled by Mahedi Hasan.听
The visitors became 15-5 in the fifth over as the hosts were all over them. This was the lowest score for Pakistan to lose five wickets.听
Shoriful had Mohammad Haris and Fakhar Zaman in consecutive overs. Haris was adjudged lbw while Fakhar was strangled down the leg.听
Tanzim struck in consecutive deliveries in his first over to push Pakistan near the edge. 听Salman Agha and Khushdil Shah hung for a while but couldn鈥檛 come out of the shell.听
Captain Salman scored just nine off 23 balls. Khushdil followed his captain after missing the line off a delivery from Mahedi to leave Pakistan at 47-7 and a whole lot of trouble.听
But Faheem continued to fight as he added 41 off 27 and 33 off 17 with Abbas Afridi and Ahmed Daniyal, respectively.听
Ahmed and Faheem trimmed 15 of the 28 required from the last two overs in the 19th over bowled by Rishad Hossain.听
But Rishad had Faheem in the last ball to give Bangladesh an edge. Daniyal holed out on the second ball off Mustafiz in the last over to hand the hosts a thrilling win.听
Earlier, Jaker Ali lifted Bangladesh from a precarious position of 29-4 after the first six overs to a fighting total on a tough pitch.听
Mohammad Naim fell in the second over, while Liton Das and Towhid Hridoy were dismissed in the fifth.听
Parvez Hossain negotiated the challenge well before handing an easy catch to mid-on.听
Jaker then built a 49-ball partnership of 53 runs to hold the middle phase of the game.听
