The National Sports Council on Thursday has terminated the nomination of Faruque Ahmed in the Bangladesh Cricket Board in the director category, a move that effectively ended Faruque鈥檚 tenure as the president of the board.听

In a statement on Thursday which was signed by the secretary, Aminul Islam, the NSC said that they terminated the nomination of Faruque after eight directors (which is the majority at the moment) submitted a no-confidence letter, according to the observation of the truth-finding committee which was formed for the BPL to continue the normal procedure of the BCB.

Faruque came in at the helm of the BCB after the ousting of the Awami League government last August, as the NSC nominated him and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, who was among the eight signatories in the no-confidence letter.听

Faruque replaced Najmul Hasan, a former minister of the Awami League.听

According to Article 13.2 in the constitution of the BCB, the president of the board must be a director.

Faruque鈥檚 future was shrouded in uncertainty after that no-confidence motion. However, the former captain of the national team had remained adamant that he would not resign, as he claimed that he had not been given any reason to do so.听

In the letter sent to the ministry, accusing Faruque of autocratic leadership, constitutional violations, financial mismanagement, and links to controversial individuals, the directors asked for the immediate removal of him from the BCB.听

This revolt coincided with the rise of former Bangladesh captain and current ICC development officer Aminul Islam as a potential successor to Faruque.听

Aminul, who scored a hundred in the country's inaugural Test match against India, reportedly arrived in Dhaka earlier this week and held discussions with top government officials. He said that he was asked to take a particular role in the BCB.听

However, it鈥檚 unclear at the moment whether NSC鈥檚 latest decision would be regarded as government interference. In which case, ICC would suspend BCB鈥檚 status as its full member nation.听
