Ripon Mondol shone with the bat and ball after being involved in a controversial incident on the second day of the second four-day match between the Bangladesh Emerging team and their South African counterparts at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.听
South Africa were 152-6 and trailing by 219 runs when rain stopped the proceedings of the day after the hosts managed 371 in the first innings thanks to a fightback from the lower order, including Ripon.听
Starting the day on 242-7, the Bangladesh Emerging team managed a further 129 runs as Rakibul Hasan (31), Ripon (43), and Mehedi Hasan (44*) all contributed substantially.听
But Ripon made the headlines when he was in a heated altercation with South African off-spinner Tshepo Ntuli, who finished with a figure of 3-108.听
During the 105th over of the Bangladesh innings, Ripon and Ntuli were seen to push one another before the umpires intervened.听
Ripon hit Ntuli for a six while coming down the ground off the first ball. There seemed to be some exchange of words between them before they were pushing each other.听
But that didn鈥檛 stop there, as Ntuli even grabbed Ripon鈥檚 helmet multiple times to pull it off. He then pointed a finger at Ripon as two other South African players also joined in the altercation before two on-field umpires, Muhammad Kamruzzaman and Arno Jacobs, calmed things down.听
Netuli, though, continued to express his frustration in an aggressive way when he threw the ball directly towards Ripon a few balls later in that over, despite Ripon not attempting a run. Ripon had to use his bat to protect him that time.听
Ripon, however, did the damage with the bat as he added 45 runs with Rakibul and then 69 runs with Mehedi, respectively.听
The right-arm pacer then took 2-35 while Rakibul took 2-63.听
For South Africa, opener Muhammad Manack scored 54 runs. Several others from the top and middle order got starts but could not capitalise.
