A case was filed on Friday with Shahbagh police station in Dhaka against unidentified assailants in connection with the murder of a Rangpur businessman whose dismembered body was found in two plastic drums near the capital’s Supreme Court gate Thursday evening.

Deceased Md Ashraful Haque’s sister Anjira Begum filed the case and the police arrested a suspect, Md Jarez, 42, for his suspected involvement in the murder, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner (media) Md Talebur Rahman.

He said that a team of the metropolitan police’s detective branch arrested Jarez at a location in Cumilla.

He, referring to primary information extracted from the accused, said that an extra-marital relation was the reason behind the murder.

Anjira, in her case, said that her brother Ashraful, 43, of the Shyampur area under Badarganj upazila in Rangpur, was a businessman and used to supply different commodities, including onions, garlic, chillies and potatoes, across the country from Hili Land Port in Dinajpur.

In the case statement, she alleged that Ashraful, along with Jarez of the same village, left for the capital’s Sayedabad on November 11 for business purposes. Since then, Ashraful’s mobile phone was found stitched off.

Ashraful’s family members suspected that Jarez might have involved in the murder anytime between 8:00pm on November 11 and 6:30pm on November 13.
