At least 15 people were killed and 25 others injured in road accidents in Noakhali, Habiganj, Tangail, Jhenaidah and Bagerhat districts on Tuesday.ÌýÌý

NewAge correspondent in Noakhali reported that six people, including a woman and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and the CNG auto-rickshaw at Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali.


Four of the deceased were identified as the auto-rickshaw driver Khokon, 46, his passengers Tanim Hasan, 26, Md Sumon, 33, and Shahadat Hossain, 36, while the identities of the rest two including the woman, could not be known.

The accident happened in front of Alia Madrassah on Kabirhat-Basurhat road around 1:45pm when the auto-rickshaw lost control and veered off its lane and careered to the other side of the road, colliding with a truck heading from the opposite direction, according to the police.

Kabirhat police officer-in-charge Md Shahin Mia said that they seized the truck but its driver fled.Ìý

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that at least three people were killed and more than 25 others were injured when two buses collided on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Shaistaganj upazila in Habiganj.

Two of the deceased were identified as Mohammed Hanif, 60, of Shahidbag village at Srimangal upazila in Moulvibazar, and Raju Miah, 35, of Barachar village at Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj, and an employee at transport agency Ena Paribahan.

Shaistaganj highway police officer-in-charge Abu Taher Dewan said that the identity of another deceased could not be known.

Local residents said that the accident happened when a Dhaka-bound bus of Royal Coach Paribahan collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound Ena Paribahan bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Kadamtoli area under the Shaistaganj upazila at about noon.

Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital’s resident medical officer Md Momen Uddin Chowdhury told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the condition of several injured patients was critical.

NewAge correspondent in Tangail reported that two people were killed after a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of Deohata over-bridge under Mirzapur upazila in the district.

The deceased were identified as CNG driver Rahij Sikder, 46, son of Azim Uddin of Ranashal village in Gorai union, and Abdul Hamid, 60, son of Azgar Ali of Deohata village in Mirzapur upazila.

Mirzapur Gorai Highway Police officer-in-charge Sohel Sarwar said that the auto-rickshaw driver attempted to enter the over-bridge from the opposite lane when the speeding bus collided with it.

The bodies will be handed over to their families after completion of legal formalities, he added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that in Jhenaidah district a college student was killed when his motorcycle collided head-on with a local-made vehicle Alam Sadhu at Anantapur village in Maheshpur upazila.

The deceased, Sajeeb Hossain, 17, son of Sanwar Khan of Laraighat Mathpara village of the upazila, was a second-year student of Padmapukur Degree College.

Maheshpur Police officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam said that the body was handed over to the family.Ìý

In Bagerhat, three riders were killed on the Khulna-Mongla highway at Rampal upazila on Tuesday evening, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

The deceased were identified as Jamir Ijaddar, 50, Mizan Bepari, 45, and Haripada Roy, 40, all residents of Rajnagar union of Rampal.

According to local people, the accident happened at Belai Bridge when the three men were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a local meeting at Bhaga Balur ground in the afternoon.

When they reached Baburbari area, a bus coming from behind hit the motorcycle, after which a truck also ran over them, leaving all the three dead on the spot.

Katakhali Highway Police officer-in-charge Md Zafar Ahmed confirmed the incident.

Mongla EPZ Fire Service senior station officer Emran Hossain said, ‘We recovered the bodies of the three victims and handed them over to the police,’ and added that traffic had since returned to normal on the highway.
