The Rapid Action Battalion on Saturday said that the long-delayed investigation into the murder of Narayanganj brilliant student Tanwir Muhammad Taqi had made significant progress and would be completed soon.

The RAB-11 chief, Lieutenant Colonel H M Sajjad Hossain, at a press briefing in the capital’s Karwanbazar area on Saturday, said that the force would submit a charge sheet in the Taqi murder case soon.

‘We have already made considerable developments. Several suspects were arrested and interrogated, revealing important information,’ Sajjad said.

He said that they would disclose all details after completion of the investigation.

‘The lengthy investigation must be completed thoroughly to ensure a fair outcome,’ the RAB official added.

Taqi, an A-level student and son of cultural activist and rights campaigner Rafiur Rabbi of Narayanganj city, was abducted on March 6, 2013 while he was going to a local library from his Shahesta Khan Road residence.

His body, bearing several wounds, was found floating in the Shitalakkhya River on March 8, 2013.

The RAB has taken 70 time extensions to submit a charge sheet to the court in the case filed following the killing in 2013.

Despite multiple investigations over the past 12 years, no charge sheet has yet been submitted.

Following the fall of the Awami League regime in early August last year, six suspects were arrested in connection with the murder.

The RAB sought additional time from a Narayanganj court on September 18 to submit the charge sheet in the case.
