A youth was killed in a crude bomb explosion during a clash between two groups at a camp of Urdu-speaking people, widely known as Geneva Camp, at Mohammadpur in Dhaka early Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Md Jahid aged between 20 and 25 years, was a resident of the Geneva Camp, said the police.
Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Kazi Rafiq Ahmed told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the incident occurred at about 3:40am inside the camp.
Initial information suggested that Jahid suffered serious injuries in a cocktail explosion during a clash between two groups inside the camp, he said.
Quoting witnesses, the police official said, ‘A violent altercation broke out between two groups inside the camp early Thursday. When Jahid stepped out of his house during the clash, a cocktail exploded, leaving him critically injured.’
Filing a case regarding the incident was under way, he added.
Jahid’s relative Robin Hossain said that Jahid walked a short distance from his house during the clash to see what was happening when a cocktail exploded and struck him on his head.
‘We first took Jahid to a nearby medical facility and later he was transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead at about 4:30am,’ he said.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk said that the body was kept in the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
