The Bangladesh Rural Development Board organised a day-long training for its officers on Monday, focusing on enhancing collaboration with Union Parishads for inclusive rural development.

The event, titled ‘Community participation and inclusive rural development: a joint effort of BRDB and Union Parishad,’ was held at the BRDB headquarters in Dhaka, said a press release.

BRDB director general and additional secretary Sardar Md Keramat Ali presided over the inaugural ceremony, with local government division secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi attending as the chief guest.

In his speech, DG Keramat Ali highlighted BRDB’s mission of socio-economic development for marginalised communities, particularly women, who comprise 68 per cent of its 53 lakh members.

He detailed the implementation of the innovative ‘Link Model’ under the Participatory Rural Development Project to ensure integrated service delivery.

Rezaul Maksud emphasised moving beyond traditional lending. He urged BRDB to launch new, innovative projects in coordination with the local government department, assuring full technical and operational support.

He cited ongoing initiatives like the ‘Swapna’ project and climate resilience programs as potential areas for collaboration.
