A leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was expelled from the party on Thursday allegedly for making a derogatory remark on Rajshahi University female students on social media.
A press release signed by RU JCD office secretary Nafiul Islam Jibon stated that Anisul Rahman Milon, vice-president of RU JCD’s Shah Makhdum Hall unit, had been expelled from the organisation for life for making the derogatory remark.
The move came in response to a midnight protest staged by nearly hundreds of female students in front of the RU July-36 Hall on Wednesday, demanding punishment for Milon after his remark went viral on Facebook.
During the protest, the students accused Milon of branding 91 female residents, who had earlier been listed in a now-withdrawn hall notice for allegedly returning after the 11:00pm deadline, as ‘sex workers’.
Meanwhile, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, president of JCD RU unit, lodged a written complaint on Thursday noon against Milon with Motihar police station in the city, for making derogatory remarks on female students.
Abdul Malek, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were reviewing the complaint and would take legal action as required.Â
