
A crime suspect died after jumping from roof without getting any way to escape after opening fire at members of security forces in Shantinagar area under Manikchhari upazila in Khagrachari district on Friday, according to the Inter Services Public Relation Directorate.
In a press release, the directorate said that top crime suspect Kangchai Marma jumped from the roof after opening one round of bullet during a drive and security forces recovered him and taken to a nearest hospital聽 where duty doctors declared him dead.
The ISPR said that security forces recovered one 9mm pistol, five LGs, 21 rounds of cartridges and bullets of 18 pistols in the drive.
The body was sent for an autopsy, said the ISPR, adding that Kangchai was involved in different criminal activities in Khagrachari and he was also accused of several abductions.
The directorate said that they conducted the drive after receiving information from Ismail Hossain, who was detained in a special drive in Garitana area under Manikchhari upazila at about 6:00am on Friday.
In the drive, they also recovered two LGs and five rounds of 21 rounds of cartridges, said the release.
The ISPR said that the Bangladesh Army was committed to ensure peace, security and stability in the Chittagong Hill Tracts area and such drives against crime suspects would continue.
