A woman was allegedly raped by a temporary railway employee on a moving train in Dhaka Wednesday morning.
The incident took place in the toilet of the Rangpur Express in Kamalapur rail station area while the train was leaving Dhaka.
Railway police detained railway employee Saiful Islam, 28, a resident of Gaibadha, in this connection.
Saiful was working as a public address system operator in the train as an outsourced employee, said Bangladesh Railway general manager (west zone) Farid Ahmed.
Saiful was also suspended after the incident, Farid said, adding that a probe committee would be formed in this regard.
Syedpur railway superintendent of police Farhat Ahmed said that as per the victim, the incident took place at about 9:00am.
When the victim informed the on-duty rail police about the incident police detained Saiful, he said.
Farid Ahmed continued that the victim and the accused had been taken to the Shantahar station in Bogura and from there they would be returned to Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka
鈥楢s the incident allegedly took place in Dhaka, the case will be filed there,鈥� he said.
The victim, 30, is from Kurigram and she was travelling alone, the police officer added.
Dhaka railway police station officer-in-charge Jainal Abedin said that till 9:00pm on Wednesday the victim and the accused did not reach Kamalapur.
鈥楾he victim will file a case here and we are waiting for them,鈥� he added.
Earlier the railway police on June 26, 2024, arrested three railway catering service employees on charge of rape of a female passenger on a moving train, Udayan Express, on the Sylhet-Chattogram route in the early hours of the day.
Before that the police arrested a train attendant of Lalmoni Express on charges of raping a schoolgirl on the running train on January 16, 2024.
