At least 390 people were killed and 1,182 more were injured in 379 road accidents across Bangladesh during the holidays for Eid-ul-Azha, said a Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh report published on Monday.
Comparing with the 2024’s Eid-ul-Azha, this year the number of people killed in road crashes increased by 16.07 per cent, injuries by 55.11 per cent and road crashes by 22.65 per cent.
Trains were involved in the next highest number of deaths — 25 people — with 12 more injured in 25 railway accidents.
Twelve people were killed and six remained missing in 11 waterways accidents during the same time.
The report was prepared based on reports published in different national dailies, seven online news portals, different electronic media and own sources between May 31 and June 14, said a press release issued by the association.
Earlier on the day the association revealed the report at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
