An activist of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was hacked to death on Tuesday night at Sharsha upazila in Jashore allegedly by activists of the Awami League over previous rivalry.

The deceased is Liton Hossain, 30, an activist of the Lakshmipur union unit BNP.

Local people said that Liton died at Sharsha Upazila Health Complex at around 10:00pm shortly after he was attacked by a number of the AL activists over previous rivalry at about 9:00pm.

Sharsha police officer-in-charge Rabiul Islam said that Liton was stabbed to death over a previous rivalry.

Victim’s father Asgar Ali alleged that the AL activists Abdul Momin, Selim Hossain, Ramjan Ali and some others killed his son over a previous rivalry.

These people of the Al, activities of which were recently banned until trial for its atrocities during July protests, had also tried to attack him earlier but failed, he alleged, claiming that an argument and altercation occurred between them on June 6, leading to the killing.

Sharsha OC Rabiul, however, claimed that the killing had no political connections.

‘Four people have been detained after filing a case in this regard,’ he added.
