Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Monday called on journalists to stand as active partners in the ongoing judicial reform efforts, emphasising the need for continued media engagement to raise public awareness and support for ensuring full independence of the judiciary.
He made the remarks while unveiling the annual souvenir ‘Projanmo 24’, published by the Law Reporters Forum, at his office on the Supreme Court premises.
Law Reporters Forum acting president Hasan Jabed and general secretary Moniruzzaman Mission led the group of journalists present at the unveiling of the forum’s annual souvenir.
The chief justice also announced that the outcomes of the regional conferences on judicial reforms will be presented at a national conference to be held at Intercontinental Dhaka on June 22.
Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus is expected to attend the event as chief guest.
The chief justice said he would provide a comprehensive update on the progress of the ongoing judicial reform initiatives and elaborate on the roadmap he previously outlined to ensure judicial independence and institutional efficiency at the conference.
The chief justice said that judicial reforms—both those already implemented and those under government consideration—require the sustained support of journalists to reach the broader public.
‘Media plays a vital role in shaping public opinion, and we need journalists to convey the importance, goals and challenges of these reforms,’ he said.
He noted that, in addition to regional workshops held with stakeholders across all eight divisions, separate sessions were also conducted with journalists to discuss the pros and cons of the reform initiatives.
These dialogues, the chief justice said, aimed to build greater public understanding and transparency around the reform process.
