The Bangladesh Army on Tuesday said that they did not have any plan to engage in waste management during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha or anti-mosquito drive, said an Inter-Services Public Relations statement.
The administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation has said that the army would be engaged in the task of managing the waste of sacrificial animals during the forthcoming Eid and in the task of controlling Dengue mosquitoes, said the ISPR statement, referring to recently published media reports.
‘It is to inform all that Bangladesh Army is not aware of such activities and it has no plan to be involved in any such activities in future,’ read the statement.
In the current context, the army is working relentlessly to ensure the sovereignty and public security of the country, added the statement.
About two hours after issuing the ISPR statement, DNCC issued a press release claiming that the matter had been misrepresented in some media outlets and on social media.
News published in various media outlets, citing the DNCC administrator, claimed that the army would be assigned to manage the waste of sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha and control dengue mosquitoes, which is not true, said the DNCC press release.
DNCC will be responsible for managing waste during Eid-ul-Azha, DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz said in the press release.
The support of the army, its corps of engineers, and various auxiliary organisations in the development of Bangladesh’s infrastructure, including DNCC, is notable, said the press release.
Supports to control dengue mosquitoes during the monsoon season will be taken from army-affiliated organisation Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory, the release said.
It also mentioned that BMTF, operating under the Bangladesh Army’s stewardship, had already provided technical assistance in mosquito control activities in Sylhet, Chattogram and Narayanganj city corporations.
