Environment, forest and climate change affairs adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Friday said that holding the election was not the only responsibility of the interim government.Â
‘We have three major responsibilities. The responsibilities are bringing reforms, ensuring justice and holding elections. We did not take responsibility only to conduct the election,’ she said.
The adviser made the remark while talking to journalists on Friday after attending the 24th National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Zoological Society of Bangladesh at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University.
She said that chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus had given a timeframe for the next national election between December 2025 and June 2026.
‘There is no scope to deviate from it even for a day,’ she said.
Since assuming office by the interim government, she said, many people with their manifold demands are coming to the streets out of their expectations from the government.
But, the street demonstration is leading Dhaka city to become paralyzed, she said, adding, ‘Expectation is one thing but responsibility is another.’
’We will only be able to fulfill our responsibilities if we receive everyone’s cooperation,’ she said.
Dhaka University pro-vice-chancellor (academic) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed presided over the inaugural session of the conference.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Protecting Biodiversity from Pollution: Bridging Solutions for a Healthier Planet.’
