A minor girl was killed and her elder brother was wounded in a bomb explosion while they had been playing inside their thatched house near Golpata Mosque in the Shankarpur area of Jashore district town Monday morning.
The deceased is Khadija Khatun, 4, daughter of late Shahidul Gazi of the Shankarpur area. Her elder brother Sahib, 6, is now undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital with critical wounds, said the hospital’s emergency medical officer Shakirul Islam.
Jashore Kotwali police station inspector (investigation) Kazi Babul Hussain said that the two children used to live with their family at a thatched house in the Shankarpur area where the explosion occurred at about 8:00am.
The explosion left the two minor siblings seriously injured and they were rushed to Jashore General Hospital from where Khadija was referred to
Dhaka, he said and added that Khadija died on the way to Dhaka at around 12:00 noon.
Locals suspected that a local miscreant might keep the bomb at the victims’ house and it exploded when they had been playing inside their house.
The police, however, could not confirm how the explosion occurred.
No case was lodged and none was arrested in this connection until Monday evening, the police said.
