A team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch arrested former Awami League reserve seat lawmaker Salina Islam in the capital鈥檚 Gulshan-2 area on early Saturday.
DMP DB joint commissioner for South Mohammad Nasirul Islam said that they brought Salina in the DB custody at Mintoo Road at about 2:00am on Saturday.
鈥楽alina is accused in several criminal cases. We are yet to fix the case in which she will be shown arrested,鈥� he added.
Salina, also a former AL Cumilla district north unit vice-president, was involved in human trafficking and lifting sand from the River Meghna, according to DB officials.
Salina, also wife of Shahid Islam, an independent lawmaker for Lakshmipur-2, who was sentenced to imprisonment by a Kuwait court on January 28 in 2021 and fined around 1.9million Kuwaiti dinars after being found guilty in a case filed on charges of bribery.
The Kuwait government arrested Shahid Islam on June 6 in 2020 and filed three cases against him on allegations of human trafficking, money laundering and bribing for securing job contracts for his companies.
Shahid Islam is also an accused in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission against four people, including his wife Salina Islam, daughter Wafa Islam and sister-in-law Jesmin Akhter on charges of amassing illegal wealth and laundering Tk聽148 crore.
