
At least 123 people were forced to enter Bangladesh from the Indian side through different bordering points in Khagrachari and Kurigram on Wednesday, creating a tense situation along the border with India.
National security adviser and chief adviser’s high representative on Rohingya issue and priority matters Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday said that Dhaka had informed New Delhi of the reported incidents of ‘push-in’ along the border.
‘We are getting news that people were being pushed in from the Indian side. If any of them is Bangladeshi citizen, our authorities should be informed officially. Such incidents are not acceptable,’ said, Khalilur, also a former diplomat, told reporters at the foreign ministry.
He said that they were in discussions with New Delhi over the matter.
At least 79 people were pushed in from the Indian side through two bordering points of Panchari and Matiranga—in Khagrachari by the Indian Border Security Force on Wednesday and all of them were now under the custody of the Border Guard Bangladesh, the local administration confirmed.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh on Wednesday arrested 44 individuals, including eight Bangladeshis, from different bordering areas under Rahumari and Bhurangamari in Kurigram on Wednesday, United News of Bangladesh reported from Kurigram.
