
The Indian Border Security Force on Friday picked up two Bangladeshis from the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat after the Border Guard Bangladesh and the BSF had exchanged two detainees each through a flag meeting in the Biral bordering area in Dinajpur in the evening.
A Bangladeshi youth, on the other hand, was critically injured as the BSF opened fire targeting him along the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah district early Friday.
The BGB in a press release said that the BSF picked up two Bangladeshi farmers from the Biral border in Dinajpur Friday morning.
Local people, on the other hand, held two Indian nationals from the same bordering area in the morning and handed them over to BGB members.
In the evening, the detained persons were handed over to their respective border forces through a flag meeting, said Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin, the commanding officer of the BGB’s 42 battalion.
Meanwhile, the BSF picked up two Bangladesh nationals while they went to take photos near the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat Friday evening, said Aftabuzzaman Sarker, officer-in-charge of Patgram police station.
The detained Bangladeshis are Secondary School Certificate examinee Rimon Islam, and his uncle Majedul Islam, he said.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that Riaz Hossen, 22, who was injured in BSF firing in Jhenaidah’s Maheshpur bordering area was rushed to Jibonnagar Upazila Health Complex and was later referred to Jashore General Hospital for better treatment.
Jashore General Hospital’s Surgery Department assistant registrar Emon Hossen said that several pellet bullets were removed from Riaz’s body.Â
‘One bullet partially intersected through his kidney,’ he said.
He said that they referred the patient to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
According to his family members, Riaz went to the bordering area Thursday night when members of Fatehpur BSF camp opened fire targeting him, leaving him seriously injured.Â
Maheshpur 58th BGB battalion commander lieutenant colonel Rafikul Alam said, ‘A patrol team was immediately dispatched to the area. We are working on it.’
