A trainee assistant superintendent of police and his two relatives were assaulted by a group of unidentified attackers near Mohammadpur police station in Dhaka early Friday.

The attackers allegedly snatched a mobile phone from the victims.

The victims, ASP Sajid Bin Kamal, 28, and his cousins Touhidur Rahman, 27, and Bipul, 27, received primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to Mohammadpur police station officials, Sajid, as a trainee ASP,  was undergoing basic training at Sardah in Rajshahi.

Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that a private car carrying Sajid and his two relatives collided with a motorcycle at a three-way junction near Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur minutes after 2:30am on Friday.

They were coming to Dhaka from Khulna.

Following the collision, the motorcycle riders, along with peers, chased the private car in an attempt to stop it. At one point, the car crashed into a large roadside board.

At that moment, a group of 10-12 unidentified people assaulted Sajid and his cousins. They also snatched a mobile phone from Sajid.

OC Iftekhar, however, said that he was unaware of any mobile phone snatching.

‘None of the injured persons have lodged a complaint yet regarding the incident,’ he said.
