A five-tier security arrangement has been implemented at the National Eidgah ground to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr with religious and festive fervour, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali.

While speaking to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements at the National Eidgah on Sunday, DMP commissioner said that the DMP had taken an integrated security plan for Eid congregations at the National Eidgah, Baitul Mukarram and other locations in Dhaka.

‘As part of the plan, the entire National Eidgah ground has been taken under CCTV surveillance,’ said the commissioner, adding that DMP’s bomb squad, SWAT and canine (K-9) units would remain on standby to ensure overall security.

In response to journalist’s query, the commissioner stated that there were no security threats regarding the Eid celebrations, said a DMP press release.

He stated that the main Eid congregation, with a capacity of approximately 35,000 worshippers, will take place at the National Eidgah on the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims.

He mentioned that a total of 1,739 Eid congregations would be held across Dhaka, including 111 Eidgahs and 1,577 mosques.

The commissioner said that there would be designated parking areas for devotees attending the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.
