The police arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the Awami League, at Singra in Natore on Monday over an allegation of making ‘derogatory’ remarks on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a social media post.

The arrested, Sakibul Hasan, 22, was general secretary of Ramananda Khajura Union BCL’s Ward 6.


Sanjay Kumar Sarker, assistant superintendent of Natore district police for Singra circle, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they arrested Sakibul at around 1:00am on Monday night after he had shared a post on social media, defaming the prophet.

Saifur Rahman, duty-officer of Singra police station, said that a man named Jakaria Rahman lodged a case against Sakibul under the Cyber Security Act 2023.

Meanwhile, agitating people brought out a protest procession at Singra and held a short rally by blocking Natore-Bogura highway at 2:00pm on Monday, demanding Sakibul’s exemplary punishment.
