At least six people were killed in road accidents in Barishal, Bogura, Gazipur and Lakshmipur on Wednesday. 

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Barishal reported that two people, including a van driver, were killed in a road accident on Barishal-Dhaka highway in the Medina Bus Stand area of ​​Gaurnadi in the district.


The two deceased were the van passenger Abdur Razzak, 47, an employee of the Gaurnadi Municipality and a resident of Dakshin Palradi village and the van driver Swapan Khan, 60, of Ramjanpur village under Kalkini in Madaripur, Gaurnadi highway police station officer-in-charge Aminur Rahman said.

Gaurnadi Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Bipul Hossain said that the engine-driven van overturned after being hit by an unknown vehicle, throwing the driver and a passenger of the van onto the highway. 

¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that vehicular movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was suspended as the workers of a garment factory put up barricade on the highway at Bagher Bazar area in Gazipur Sadar in the district, protesting the death of a fellow in road accident. 

The workers of Golden Refit Garments Limited took to the street at Bagher Bazar in the upazila around 8:00am, halting vehicular movement on the busy highway.

Later, the police convinced the workers to lift the blockade at around 10:00am.

The protesting workers said that Zannatul Ferdous Tamanna, 32, a worker of Golden Refit Garments Ltd, was killed as a truck hit an auto-rickshaw carrying her on the way to her workplace in the morning.

Meanwhile, transport workers blocked the highway, claiming several of their vehicles were vandalised.

Despite the police’s request to remove the blockade, the workers refused to comply, prompting the police to disperse them around 12:15pm.

Assistant superintendent of the Gazipur industrial police Md Wahiduzzaman confirmed the incident. 

United News of Bangladesh reported that a woman and her minor daughter were killed when a truck hit a van in Beragram under Dupchanchia in Bogura.

The deceased were Roksana Parveen, resident of Satuapara village in Kahalu and her daughter Rahia Khatun, 3, said Dupchanchia police station OC Faridul Islam. 

Angered by the accident, local people set the truck on fire following the accident. 

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a woman was killed when a truck hit an auto-rickshaw collided in Char Lawrence area under Kamalnagar of Lakshmipur district.

The deceased was Nur Nahar Begum, 65, a resident of the same area.

Kamalnagar police station OC Touhidul Islam said that a case was filed in this connection.
