27 crime suspects arrested in 24hrs

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective branch chief, Rezaul Karim Mallik, on Tuesday said that top criminals, including Imam-ul-Hasan alias Picchi Helal and Sanjidul Islam Emon, would be brought to book.

Emphasising the importance of maintaining law and order, he stated that no criminals, including Helal and Emon, would be allowed to evade punishment.

‘We are taking all necessary steps to apprehend them, and they will certainly be arrested,’ the DB chief said in response to a query at a press conference at the DMP media centre in the capital.

Both Helal and Emon were accused in cases involving murder and mugging. Emon was named the prime suspect in a case related to a recent attack on two businessmen in Dhaka’s Elephant Road area.

Rezaul, also DMP additional commissioner, said that the police had zero-tolerance policy towards extortionists and muggers.

The DB arrested 27 individuals linked to such crimes from Dhaka and seized firearms, including pistols, magazines and bullets in the past 24 hours, he said.

The arrests were made in the ongoing drives, as extortion and mugging are on the rise, he said.

‘The police will deal with extortionists and muggers with an iron fist. Intelligence surveillance has been intensified in the capital and other areas to eliminate such crimes,’ he noted.

Rezaul urged people to inform the DB if they have any information about crimes and criminals.
