Confirming the matter, Hatirjheel police station officer-in-charge Saiful Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a case was filed in this regard.
‘Victim’s sister Rabita Sabah filed the case on Wednesday evening,’ he said.
The cause of the death will be known after the report, added the police official.
Rabita Sabah at an interview said that Rahanuma was frustrated due to job stability.
‘It is shocking for us that she ended her own life,’ Rabita said.
Md Sagor, one of the pedestrians who brought the body to the hospital, said that he saw the body floating in the lake midnight past Tuesday.
Later, pedestrians pulled out the body from the lake and took it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead at about 2:00am.
The news of the death spread on Facebook soon with speculation of suicide as Rahanuma shared a post on Facebook on Tuesday, hours before her death.
The post said, ‘It is better to die than to live such a life.’
Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy also shared his views about the incident on Facebook terming it as ‘brutal attack on freedom of expression in Bangladesh.’
In his post, he said that Gazi TV was a secular news channel owned by former lawmaker Golam Dastagir Gazi, who was arrested recently.
