
An 18-year old boy was lynched on suspicion of theft by an agitated mob at Tanore upazila in Rajshahi on Monday night.
The deceased was Sohan Ali, son of late Shamsuddin of Ilamdahi Bazar area under Pachoindor union, said police.
Quoting locals, Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station, said that several grocery stores, including that of former UP member Rafiqul Islam, were robbed in Ilamdahi Bazar on Monday night.
Suspecting that Sohan stole things from the shops, the shopkeepers along with the local people beat him severely.
Later, Sohan was rushed to Tanore Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The police official said that the sister of Sohan filed a murder case with the police station against 10 named and 10 to 12 unnamed others on Tuesday.
‘We have sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy, and are trying to arrest the accused,’ he added.
