Jahangirnagar University pro-vice-chancellor for administrative affairs Professor Sheikh Manzurul Huq and treasurer Professor Rasheda Akhter resigned from their respective posts on Monday amid student protest demanding their resignation.

The resignations, therefore, led to an ultimate vacuity to the university administration’s top brass.


They submitted their resignation letters via email to President Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university, on the day, said the JU acting registrar ABM Azizur Rahman.

Azizur Rahman also said that Manzurul Huq and Rasheda Akhter cited the current situation prevailed across the country as the reason behind the resignation.   

The JU students locked the offices of the university’s pro-VC and treasurer on Sunday, demanding their resignation.

The protesters alleged that the administrative members were the associates in the brutal police and the Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League action on a peaceful demonstration in front of the VC’s residence on July 15.

They also claimed that the administrative members directed police to shot on students on July 17 when students laid a siege in front of the administrative building, protesting hall vacant order.

Earlier, the JU VC Professor Nurul Alam, registrar Abu Hasan, proctor Professor Alamgir Kabir, president of the provosts’ committee Professor Sayadur Rahamn and registrar Abu Hasan had resigned from their respective posts.
