At least five people were killed in road accidents in Sirajganj and Gazipur on Monday.聽

The United News of Bangladesh reported that four member of a family were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a private car on Hatikumrul-Banpara Highway at Hatikumrul in Sirajganj on Monday.聽


The deceased Jasim Uddin, 65, his wife Myna Khatun, 60, and their two sons, Jamal Uddin, 45, and Kamal Uddin, 40, were the residents of Narsinghpur village in Bagmara of Rajshahi.

The driver of the private car who sustained serious injuries was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.聽

The fire service personnel immediately went to the spot and recovered the bodies, which were kept at Salanga police station, said Md Taj Uddin, investigating officer of the police station.

It was suspected that the truck managed to flee the scene as the police had not been patrolling the highway since the Hatikumrul highway police station was set on fire during the anti-discrimination protest on August 5.

In another incident, an unidentified motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kadda area of Gazipur, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.聽

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Basan police station of Gazipur sub-inspector Dulal Chandra said that the accident occurred when the truck hit the motorcyclist around 5:30am as he was heading to Gazipur from Tangail, leaving him dead on the spot.聽聽聽

The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
