A car loaded with Tk 88,50,000 and three people, including the driver, were detained by students, who were controlling traffic in Narsingdi in the absence of the police as in other places.

The incident took place in the Sahepratap Crossing area of Narsingdi on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Saturday afternoon.


The three arrested are Md Monir Hossain, 40, son of Abu Mia in the Hariala area of Ashuganj upazila, car driver Julhas Mia, 32, son of Nuru Mia in the Durgapur area of the same upazila, and Russell Ahmed, 32, son of Juru Mia of Brahmanbaria town.

The number of the detained vehicle is Dhaka Metro B 13-1652.

According to the students and Ansars, a group of students were performing traffic controlling duties at Narsingdi’s Sahepratap junction on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway like other days.

Ansar-VDP members were also standing next to them.

At that time, a car was going towards Bhairav. After talking to its driver and two passengers, the students became suspicious.

Later, the students searched the car and recovered the money from two bags in the car.

Then, the students called the Ansar members who were nearby.

The passengers of the private car were asked about the source of the money but they could not give any reply.

After that, when the matter was reported to the army, a group of army personnel came to the spot and took the three people with the money and car to the office of the deputy commissioner.

At around 2:00pm in the conference room of the district commissioner’s office, the money was counted in the presence of district administration negarat deputy collector and executive magistrate Shihab Sarar Abhi.

At the end of the calculation, it was seen that there was Tk 88,50,000 in cash.
