The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists on Friday urged Bangladesh authorities to ensure justice for journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim.
The CPJ made the demand in a statement posted on its website on Friday.
CPJ said that one year ago, on June 14, 2023, Golam Rabbani Nadim was killed after being brutally beaten by a group of people.
He was a correspondent for the news website Banglanews24.com and broadcaster Ekattor TV, and vice president of the Jamalpur District Online Journalists Association.
Several suspects were arrested in connection with the journalist murder, but were released on bail. Some of the suspects remained at large, said the CPJ.
The police have yet not submitted a charge sheet in the case, it also added.
On June 14, 2023, Nadim was returning home when he was attacked by a group of men in Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur.
The assailants indiscriminately beat him before fleeing the scene, leaving him unconscious. He died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the following day.
According to media reports and the Rapid Action Battalion, suspended Sadhurpara union parishad chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu masterminded the murder to settle a personal vendetta over news reports.
The RAB told journalists on June 17, 2023 that it was a planned murder. Nadim鈥檚 reports on the chairman involving a woman and different irregularities angered the chairman which led to the murder.
Nadim鈥檚 wife, Monira Begum, filed a case with the Bakshiganj police on June 17 against 22 named and 20鈥�25 unnamed suspects.
