
A police constable was killed and two others were injured as another constable opened fire indiscriminately on them in front of the Embassy of Palestine in the capital’s Baridhara area on Saturday night.
The deceased was constable Monirul Islam, a resident of Atpara upazila in Netrakona, while the attacker constable Kawser Ahmed is a native of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia.
Guslhan Police Station officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam said that constable Monirul and Kawser were on duty in the Diplomatic Security Zone and added that the injured ones included a pedestrian and a driver employed at the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh.
‘The bullet-injured pedestrian and the driver are now undergoing treatment at the United Hospital,’ he said.
He said that the incident took place at about 11:45pm on Saturday.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday remanded Kawser Ahmed in police custody for seven days against a 10-day remand prayer of the Gulshan police sub-inspector Md Mannaf, also the investigation officer in the case.
Kawser and Monirul were engaged in an altercation before the murder incident but the topic of the conversation is yet to be confirmed, said DMP Gulshan Division deputy police commissioner Rifat Rahman Shamim.
‘We cannot say anything right now before completing the investigation. We will check the CCTV footage as well,’ he added.
While talking to reporters in the early hours of Sunday, inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said that he would look into the matter seriously as both persons belonged to his force.
According to the Gulshan police OC Mazharul, the body was handed over to the deceased constable’s brother after autopsy at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Sunday night.
‘He will be buried at his village home in Netrakona district,’ the OC added.
