Two children of a same family drowned in a pond in Pekua upazila of Cox鈥檚 Bazar Saturday morning.
The incident occurred in Kadimakata area of ward no 3 of Barbakia union at about 7:30am. The deceased are Munni, 4, daughter of Zaheer Ahmed of the area, and his granddaughter Monira, 3, daughter of Belal Uddin of Madukhali area under Toitong union in the upazila.
Family members said that at about 7:00am, the two children fell into the pond while playing in the yard of a neighbouring house. When searching for the duo to administer vitamin A capsules, they found the children floating in the pond.
Later, they were rushed to Pekua upazila health complex, where the attending doctor declared them dead.
Pekua upazila health and family planning officer Mujibur Rahman stated that the two children were died before arriving on the hospital.
